Verizon Indirectly Throttling Netflix Traffic

A very important article today from Gigaom details the shady practices at Verizon:

“When the ports start to fill up (usually at 50 percent of their capacity), the internet companies add more ports. In this case, through, Verizon is allowing the ports that connect to Cogent (serves Netflix and others) to get crammed.”

This kind of letting politics get in the way of real progress is as disheartening as it is frustrating for users of Verizon. If you have their broadband service and find Netflix stream performance to be lacking, please call your representative and either tell them that this is unacceptable, or switch providers.
