Periscope Used Instead of C-SPAN Cameras to Record US House Sit-In

Whichever side you might be on, we have to admit that things are pretty interesting when US House of Representatives members turn to Periscope and Facebook Live video on their cell phones when Republicans ordered C-SPAN cameras shut down. It’s reminiscent of the many times that protestors took to Twitter to organize and get the word out about their causes when the media tried to shut them down – only this time the media wants in and were told to shut their cameras off.

C-SPAN has no control over the U.S. House TV cameras.

Cordcutters will be used to C-SPAN blackouts though, as you can’t normally watch the House and Senate streams without having a cable subscription:

“Sorry you need an active cable subscription to watch your democracy live online”

So while we deal with the inevitable uproar over shutting off people’s access to watch the debates live, we’d like to throw in an extra request to bring that access to everyone, cable or no.
