I’m sure you’ve all heard (or experienced) that Netflix streaming service was down on Christmas Eve, 2012. It has come out though that the outage was due to a problem with Amazon Web Services (AWS), in which Netflix pays Amazon to stream their content from the cloud. Amazon’s own service though, Amazon Instant Video, did not go down. It seems they may be prioritizing their own traffic when everyone is home streaming. It’s an interesting situation, but for now Netflix users are stuck with the outages whenever Amazon, their competitor in the streaming realm, has a problem… Do you think Amazon might ever pull the plug on Netflix for good?
